Exhibit: Our Daily Bread...
Ukrainian National Museum of Chicago
2249 W. Superior Street, Chicago IL 60612
This exhibit is dedicated to the memory of 10 Million Victims of the 1932-1933 Genocide in Ukraine.
From the collection of E. Morgan Williams:
Holodomor Through the Eyes of Ukrainian Artists.
UKRAINE, the breadbasket of Europe, is a land historically known for its golden wheat. Yet, between the years of 1932-33 ten million Ukrainians were starved to death even though no natural catastrophe visited the land. At the height of the Genocide Famine, Ukrainian villagers were dying at the rate of:
17 per minute, 1,000 per hour, 25,000 per day…
WE CAN NOT ALLOW THE WORLD TO FORGET!

December 6, 2008 - December 7, 2008 - 10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Native American Holiday Bazaar
Mitchell Museum of the American Indian
3001 Central St., Evanston, IL 60201
Twenty-one Native American exhibitors from throughout the Chicago area and beyond will be offering authentic, handmade, traditional and contemporary art and craft items at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian’s Native American Holiday Bazaar on December 6 and 7 at the museum, 3001 Central St., Evanston.
Native artists will be selling works ranging from paintings, ceramics, baskets, and decorated gourds to inlaid silver jewelry, beadwork, clothing, feather work, and more.
The number of exhibitors is up by more than 60 percent from last year’s holiday bazaar, the museum reports.
John Low, the Mitchell Museum’s executive director and member of the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians, says, “No gift is more quintessentially American than genuine Native American art. Shoppers will find one-of-a-kind pieces that can serve as memorable, creative gifts for business associates, international visitors, and overseas acquaintances, as well as for relatives and friends.”
Exhibitors pay nothing to participate, and they keep all proceeds from their sales.
This year’s edition of the museum’s annual holiday market welcomes eight first-time participants: award-winning recording artist Travis Harden (Minnecojou Lakota), ceramic artist Jerry Lang (Meherrin); beadwork artist Marcie McIntire (Ojibwe); beadwork artist Katrina Mitten (Miami); visual artist Chris Pappan (Osage/Kaw); gourd artist Patricia Smith (Miami); visual artist Debra Yepa-Pappan (Jemez Pueblo/Korean); and silversmith Mitchell Zephier (Lakota).
The Mitchell Museum shop also offers bona fide Native-made items, including a selection of seasonal holiday decorations.
Admission to the bazaar is included with an entrance donation to the museum. Suggested donation is: $5 for adults; $2.50 for seniors, students, and children. Maximum suggested admission per family is $10.
Event Cost: $5/$2.50
